ITI Germany has taken over the project management for digital-stage.org in 2020.

Concerts, theatre and other performances are currently provided mainly in the form of recordings on the Internet. Live they hardly work because most of the offers on the internet do not provide a real audio mix due to the intended data reduction. Usable solutions are usually expensive and/or require special hardware or requirements such as glass fibre connections.

Digital Stage is developing a possibility that allows larger music and theatre ensembles to rehearse in the Internet from different locations and with standard technology and to perform live on a digital stage in front of an audience. In a later step, 3D audio and virtual reality formats are also to be integrated.

More than 30 institutions work together for Digital Stage.

Since January 2021 Digital Stage is under the auspices of an independent non-profit Ltd.
